[Because the title just struck me as funny.]
Daemon gazed up at the weird blend of a mansion and a castle in front of him and rolled his eyes. "Picturesque," he muttered under his breath as he stuck a cigarette in his mouth, fumbling in his left pocket for a lighter. Yeah, he was trying to quit. Trying being the operative word. He didn't really see the point to it - lung cancer would just have to take a number. "Don't tell me you finally gave me that vacation, Lars." He took a long drag and let it out slowly. Aah. Not that he would even know what to do with himself if he ever did get a vacation. He mostly griped about it just to be difficult.

Logan exited the building and pulled the hood of his sweatshirt forward. He knew the sun wasn't too bad, but he tended to be overly cautious. He had opted to not wear the cape because Autumn was going on a cleaning spree and he figured letting her clean that would help improve her mood. She promised she would find him as soon as it was clean. He looked around, having not been out on the grounds much, and saw a new guy smoking. "I'm pretty sure telling you about the risk of lung cancer would be pointless," he said, walking over to him. "I'm sure you get told about it enough."

Turning at the sound of someone approaching, Daemon flicked his gaze in a quick once-over of Logan, then shrugged, relaxing his posture. Risk seemed minimal, but he slipped a hand casually into his right pocket anyway. "But all the cool kids are doing it," he said dryly. "I'll be sure to let my addiction know that, though."

Logan scoffed. "I guess that depends on your definition of cool," he said. "All the cool kids I know would probably have smacked you offside the head already. But you would probably try to defend your honor, considering the hit would most likely be from one of the girls." He shrugged at the last part. Girls hitting guys wasn't a new thing to him, so he really didn't see anything wrong with it. New Guy might though...

Daemon just raised an eyebrow and said, "You must let me to introduce you to my friend Sarcasm sometime." He glanced up at the building in front of him and asked, "What's the name of this place again?" He knew. He'd memorized it. But he had to confirm that he was in the right place. The old-fashioned carriage had dropped him at the gates and the driver had said this was the school, but he'd been misinformed before.

((Have I mentioned that I don't like you for making me put in the stupid name of the frickin' place?))
"ADSGMP," Logan said. "The Albus Dumbledore School for Gifted Magical Persons. ((If that's wrong, I don't care. It's close enough.)) It's a mouth full, but you get used to it. And I'm used to the sarcasm. My best friend happens to be quite well acquainted with it. My way of dealing with it is answering as if there was no sarcasm. Reactions tend to be better." He smirked.

[Lmao. And you got it right. See? Not so hard.]
"Right," Daemon said flatly, taking another drag. He was starting to get bored, but decided he may as well milk some basic information from this guy before ditching him. "So tell me, what's the climate like here as far as sneaking out after curfew goes? How easy is it to get out and to that town a few miles off without the teachers riding your ass?" Or to move about the school after hours.

((Doesn't mean I have to be happy about it....))
"That's probably one of the easiest things you will ever do," Logan said. "I mean, my group of friends sneaks around constantly. We've snuck off to Paris for a week and come back only to get barely more than a slap on the wrist. To us there really is no curfew."

[Lmao]
Daemon raised an eyebrow at the mention of Paris but just said, "Good to know." He gazed up at the huge building and silently cursed the fact that he was unable to dig up a map or floor-plan of the place. But no matter - that pale guy was still talking to him and seemed pretty eager to please. And so Daemon asked, "You happen to know where the Air dorms are?"

((Ooooh, I love the new siggy.))
"I do actually," Logan said. "My best friend and my girlfriend are up there. After a while it's pretty easy to find your way around, but the first few days it takes some getting used to." He watched the new guy as he spoke and decided he couldn't be too bad. He reminded Logan of a lot of his friends. Sarcastic, not willing to give up too much information, frustrated by not knowing things... It couldn't hurt to be nice to him. "You want me to show you where it is?"

[Hee, thankee! I couldn't sleep last night, so I figured I'd do something useful after I finished my school reading. God, I can't believe I go back to school a week from tomorrow.. Gah..]
Daemon eyed Logan for a moment before shrugging and saying, "I'd appreciate it, if you haven't got anything better to do. My luggage was sent ahead. I just have to actually find my luggage now. Should be in dorm 10 of the Air Tower."

((Dude that sucks.... I still need to do my summer reading... maybe I should do that instead of reading fanfiction...))
"Yeah, it's no problem," Logan said. "I've been wanting to see my girlfriend all day." He turned and headed back into the building. "Just follow me. I'll take you the shorter way because it's easier."

[Lmao, maybe. Yeah, "The Bluest Eye" kind of made me want to shoot myself, but "The Things They Carried" wasn't so bad. I got through it a lot faster, because it was a little interesting and well written. Now I can read things I actually want to read! Woot! I'm now reading "Neverwhere" by Neil Gaiman, and so far it's excellent.]
Daemon tossed his nearly burnt down cigarette onto the grass and stamped it out with an easy twist of his foot, then put both hands into the pockets of his tailored pants and followed after Logan, a couple steps behind and to the right. "Thank you," he said. "I have a pretty good sense of direction, but this place looks quite.. convoluted."

((Yeah, I can't decide if I like the memoir or not. I'm not really a fan of his writing style so far, but he drops F-bombs like it's his job so that kinda makes up for it.))
Logan laughed, shaking his head. "I don't think I could pick a better word, honestly. Staircases move, hallways change... But at least it's on a regular cycle so you can remember it after a while." He turned onto a narrow staircase that looked like it was going to collapse. "Watch out for the fourth step. It actually doesn't exist. We've had a few broken ankles."

[Lmao, woot. If you get too sick of it and need to drop it, I can always pull up some recommendations.]
Daemon made sure to avoid the step with an easy hop, memorizing his surroundings and the way as they walked. After a while he said, "This school and what it's for has mostly been explained to me, but lacking a few details. What kind of classes are offered here? Do they still run standard classes, or is it all magic-based?"
|
|
|
Post by Sharkbait on Aug 12, 2008 11:42:25 GMT -5
((Alright, thanks.))
"There are normal classes, but most of them are to help focus and control your mage," Logan said as they continued walking. "You've got normal stuff like Composition mixed with Meditation or something like that. It comes to an odd sort of balance, really."

Daemon nodded and then lapsed into silence as he continued to commit to memory the way to the Air dorms. He was no stranger to magic, but he'd never had that formal of an education in it. He had been home-schooled in more mundane subjects, and had undergone some tutelage in some scattered magical arts, but nothing as organized and rigorous as this specialized school. So not a complete fluff job, then - he would get something out of his time here. Perhaps he'd get some opportunities to peruse the library for Potions texts - a subject he was quite fond of.

They finally reached the entrance to the Air Common Room. Logan gave the password and held the door open for the new guy. Once they were both inside, Autumn came running down the stairs. "I told you I would find you when it was done, Linus," she said. "Do you really need it that badly that you can't wait another hour? It's not even that bright out!" Logan smiled and shook his head. "I didn't come for that," he explained. "I'm playing tour guide again."

Daemon stepped through the door with a courteous nod of thanks to Logan, then paused to take in the room. He tensed slightly at Autumn's sudden appearance, but after another of those quick, appraising looks, he relaxed into a casual posture again. He tipped his head slightly in greeting but remained silent for now, observing their interaction.

"Sorry," Autumn said, then looked over at the new guy and smiled before looking back at Logan. "Layali's probably still upstairs if you want to go look." "You don't know?" Logan asked cautiously. She shrugged. "I'm blocking as much as I can. It's nice not to have people screaming in my head all the time." She looked back at the new guy. "Hi. I'm Autumn," she said, holding out her hand for him to shake. "Sorry you've had to deal with Logan playing tour guide. He's been doing it the longest, but his tours can be pretty boring."
