"They must be pretty bad then," Autumn said. "I guess I better keep blocking constantly or you better learn to block your own thoughts. I'm not the only telepath in the school. Verginia and Jasper both are."

"Why don't you teach me?" Daemon asked. "We've got the time."

Autumn raised her eyebrow at him before looking at the ground, thinking. "I think it would be kind of pointless to do it in a dream," she said, thinking out loud. "I mean, you might not have even said anything like that in real life." She looked back up at him, trying to find a reason not to do it. "But I guess it couldn't hurt. It saves me from the other options I have for dreams."

"Of course. Even figments of your imagination should have the opportunity to be educated," Daemon said with a wry, amused smile.

"Well, when you put it like that, how can I refuse?" Autumn asked with a grin.

"So. What do I do?" Daemon asked.

"Well, the easiest thing to do, I guess, is to picture a wall of some sort surrounding everything in your mind," Autumn said. "Doesn't matter if it's brick, steel, concrete.... All that matters is that there are no holes. If there's even one hole, thoughts will seep through and the wall will crumble."

Daemon nodded and said, "That sounds simple enough.."
[I'm just oozing brilliance, I know.]

"Yeah, it sounds easy," Autumn said, scoffing. "It sounded easy when I tried it too. Unfortunately, I lost concentration as soon as I had it up and it didn't even last a full second. It took me about a year to get it right." She sat on the bench next to Daemon. "It's hard when you're the first person to learn how to do something. People don't get just how hard it is.."

Daemon frowned, not enthused with this information, and said, "I'll practice. Meanwhile, I'll have to extract a promise from you to keep out of my thoughts."

"Oh, you should be able to get it within a few days," Autumn assured him. "I've been working on blocking for over three years and I've taught all my friends, so it's not as bad when you actually have something to go on. But, I promise that I will stay out of your thoughts. Especially when I'm awake, even though this probably isn't real."

"I would appreciate that," Daemon said. "Do you usually remember your dreams?"

Autumn shrugged. "Well, it kind of depends on the dream, I guess. This one I'll probably remember. It's crazy enough. And if I don't right away, I'm pretty sure if I see you it'll trigger something and I'll remember it. It's just how my crazy brain works."

Daemon nodded and said, "That makes sense." He stood up and went to lean on his arms against the edge wall of the tower, looking out over the forest. Musingly he said, "You're not so bad. And this is a pretty nice place."

Autumn smiled. "Well, it's always nice to hear that I'm not so bad. I usually like to hear that I'm pretty cool, maybe even just pretty, but not so bad isn't... that bad, I guess." She looked out over the grounds as well, but stayed on the bench. "But yeah, this place is amazing. It's the only home I've known. My parents' house was never home, the orphanage was a prison... but this place is perfect."

Daemon turned to look at her in surprise, curiosity in his voice as he asked, "Orphanage?"

"Rught, you don't know about that..." Autumn said. "My parents dropped me off at one when I was six. I was such a burden to them that they didn't want me anymore. Then they had my little brother two years later. I've never met him, I've only seen pictures." She sighed. "Anyway, I was at the orphanage for about 8 years before I came here. Logan was the only friend I ever made there."

"Six," he repeated, shaking his head. A thought occurred to him, highly unlikely, but still, he had to ask. "What orphanage?"

"You know, for all the time I was there, I don't actually know," Autumn said, feeling stupid. "It's one of those things that was never really said. We spent all our time in the building so we just called it 'here.' All I know is that it's somewhere in London."

Daemon nodded, looking a little relieved. "Must have sucked," he said stiffly, looking back out over the grounds.
