[Lol, yep, that's true]
Chaosti gave a short, uneasy laugh, running his fingers through his hair as he tried to reason away what had just happened. "You sure you don't have some sort of mind power?" he asked, trying to sound easy and casual.

((Is this the moment now?))
Edward gave a small laugh, sounding nervous as well. "As far as I know it's just manipulating fire," he said. He found himself engrossed with watching Chaosti run his hands through his hair and felt an overwhelming urge to do that himself. He took a small step forward, but caught himself before reaching out.

[Works for me]
Chaosti shook his head almost incredulously, folding his wings close to his back, a nervous gesture. "Maybe you should have the professors test you for one. Because whenever I get too close to you, I get dizzy - like there's some radio interference in my head or something. Maybe it has something to do with my being a dragon shifter and your having control over fire.. Because dragons are creatures of fire." He was babbling now, but it was better than thinking about the possible connotations of.. of all of this. "I don't know. I.." He trailed off and gave a helpless little shrug. His legs seemed to regain mobility as he turned and took the few steps that would place him on the edge of the lake. He bent down and cupped some water in his hands, splashing it on his face in hopes of clearing his thoughts, then straightened up again.

Edward watched Chaosti standing awkwardly, water dripping down his face and chest. He walked over next to him and looked him in the eye. "It could be that," he said quietly. He reached up and moved a piece of wet, stray hair out of Chaosti's face. "Or maybe it's something a lot less complicated than that." The urge finally took Edward as his hand slid down from Chaosti's hairline to the back of his neck. Edward pulled him closer and pressed his own lips to Chaosti's, his eyes closing in the moment.

Chaosti had started to say something when suddenly Edward's lips were on his, and shock completely blanked his mind. He couldn't even remember what he'd been about to say, or even vaguely what it had been about. It took a moment for his brain to register what was happening, and an inarticulate, strangled sound of protest mingled with desire escaped him. When he came to his senses moments later - moments that had felt like eternities - he was horrified to realize that he'd grabbed Edward by his upper arms and dragged him closer, and that his lips had started to move against the other man's. He wrenched himself away, stumbling back a step and having to flare his wings open slightly to catch his balance. Out of breath even after such a short time, he stammered, "I-I can't. Autumn.. I couldn't.. And I'm not.. I've never.." He didn't seem able to string a sentence together, while his body was still mourning the loss of feeling Edward against him.

Edward took a deep breath, savoring the taste still lingering on his lips. He slowly opened his eyes to see a confused Chaosti in front of him. "I'm sorry," he said quietly. He could still barely feel the comfort of Chaosti's hands on his arms, the feel of their lips moving together. "I thought you knew. About me being... I've been dropping hints..." He moved his gaze down to the ground in front of him, sighing, before looking at Chaosti again. "I don't mean for this to ruin your relationship with Autumn. I just needed that... To know if you felt something too."

Chaosti stared at Edward helplessly while warring with himself in his head. Part of him complained and stamped its foot like a child, saying that they should go and find Autumn now to reaffirm their love of her and never think of Edward again. The other part, the part he'd been trying to ignore, wanted nothing more than for him to seize Edward and snog him senseless. "I don't know.." He had a sudden mental image of both inner Chaosti's spinning around to stare at him incredulously. Neither of them had given him permission to speak. Great, this had to be a really fantastic sign for the state of his sanity. "I've been.. feeling something. I'm not entirely sure what it is. I don't want to hurt Autumn. I love her. But.." He shook his head, then touched his lips thoughtfully with the tips of two fingers, eyes half closed. "I just don't know."

Edward nodded, shoving his hands in his pockets to keep him from doing anything else at that moment. "Maybe you don't love her that way," he said, trying to say it without being offensive. "Maybe you love her more as... as a sister. Or someone you can tell everything to. She might be more like Elena than someone that you want to be in a romantic relationship with." He paused to let that sink in before continuing. "Maybe it just took you this long to realize that you are interested in men. Maybe that's where your problem with your art stems from."

Chaosti chewed his lowerlip nervously and stared at the ground as he thought about that, mind racing. "That.. might actually make sense." He shifted his gaze to Edward and asked, "How did you know? You know, that you were..?"
[Gah, so short compared to the roll I've been on lately!]

((Wow... well, it could be worse. It could be half a sentence with IM abbreviations.))
Edward shrugged. "I always had more female friends. I always agreed with them more about the people they like and never really saw them as anything beyond friends," he said. "But I think the deciding factor was at the fall pep rally my freshman year. All the guys were watching the cheerleaders, I tried for a few minutes and didn't really see anything too interesting. Then I looked at the football players.... Here, let me make an art analogy. Looking at the cheerleaders was like looking at... at a blank canvas. Nothing there worth looking at. The football players on the other hand... It was like a masterpiece. All the detail seemed to pop out and I just couldn't get enough. I guess that was when I knew for sure."

[Lol, true.]
Chaosti laughed a little at that, seeming a bit more at ease now. Considering the art analogy, he found himself admitting, "I work on your second portrait every night. I don't even need you to sit as a reference any more, the image is so ingrained in my mind. But I like you there. I like talking to you while I work. I haven't been this obsessed over a project in a long time. You've.. inspired me."

Edward smiled at the thought of Chaosti picturing him often. "I'm glad to know I've been of some help to you then," he said. "I've been thinking about you as well.... About our talks, that pool visit... I've never been so attracted to someone before you. But not just physically... I want to know everything about you. I can't get those conversations out of my head... Your voice just does not want to leave my head."

Chaosti couldn't help the smile that crept across his face. It was immensely gratifying to here all of this, to know he wasn't going insane imagining that there was something between them. He found himself reaching out to touch Edward's face lightly, almost reverently, as though he were fragile glass or a mirage that might disappear if he tried to hold it. "We shouldn't do anything about this until I talk to Autumn. I can't even fathom talking to her about it - I'm still coming to terms with what 'this' is myself. But.." He stared at the face he'd come to know so well over the past couple of weeks, the face he'd studied every line and angle of, and a shiver ran through him. "But gods, what have you done to me?"

Edward leaned into Chaosti's touch, wanting the contact. "I promise I won't make this any more difficult than it already is," he said with an apologetic smile. "I really am sorry about the position I've put you in. But I think, if you just tell her the truth, she'll understand. She's a telepath, right? So, she'll see exactly what's going on and maybe that will help make it easier." He reached up and cupped the side of Chaosti's face with his hand. "Just be honest with her. That's really all you can do."

Chaosti sighed and reached up to cover the hand on his cheek with his own, keeping it there. "You're right. Of course you're right. I just hope I don't screw this up. I've obviously never had to do anything like this before, and I don't want to lose her friendship. That much I know for sure." His lips twitched into a wry smile as he said, "Elena's going to have a field day with this." His brow furrowed as he considered his other friends. What would the guys think of this? Would it put a strain on their friendship? He knew for certain he'd never been attracted to Logan or Derek any of them, and that they were most positively in the friend box for all time, but would they see it that way?

"She'll understand," Edward said. "I can tell she loves you too. She'll want you to be happy. It might take some time for her to get used to the idea, but she'll understand." ((After copious amounts of Ben and Jerry's of course.)) "But you can't let the thought of your friends abandoning you because of this affect what you do. They will stick by you no matter what. Granted, there may be mocking involved, but it's not the end of the world."

"I know.. I do know that. They're not the kind of people that would freak out about it. It's just I never thought I'd be in this sort of situation. There's certain life events you grow up expecting, and this is clearly not one of them." He laughed a little and said, "But I guess that's the reality of life, huh?"

"Yeah, life sucks," Edward said. "But at least you won't have to go through anything like I did. The reason I was thrown into therapy before I came here was because of what happened at my school's football tryouts. I'd always wanted to play and I figured I could probably make the team, even if I ended up being second- or third-string. But I never got to try out. The captain of the team told me that, because I'm gay, I couldn't try out. Then they beat the shit out of me and I woke up in the hospital." He sighed. "The guys that did it got a two day suspension from school. Nothing else. I was lying in a hospital bed for a week."

Chaosti's eyes flashed with anger and outrage upon hearing that. When he spoke, his voice held a slight reptilian rasp. "Were did you say you were from? For future reference. So I can kill them."
[Gah, sorry this is so short! And sorry it took me so long to reply, with so little to show for it.. I got drawn into the discussion of the Montauk Monster on Gawker. I have this thing where mysterious creature finds get me all excited that it might actually Be Something This Time.]

((It's fine. But do you think we're almost done with this scene? I'm running out of ideas....))]
Edward smiled. "No, you really don't need to worry about that," he said. "My friends took care of that by putting hemroid cream in their jock straps and itching powder in their uniforms. Ruined their undefeated record and that was enough for them to lay off. The most I got was glares and a few empty threats."
