"Wanna see 'em?" Chaosti asked, putting his sunglasses back on and slinging his messenger bag over his shoulder. "Should be pretty quiet right now. They get busier later in the afternoon, when most classes are out. The pool's probably even locked right now, with no lifeguard on duty, but years with my best friend Elena have taught me that locks are no obstacle." He flashed his mischievous grin again.

Edward nodded, grinning back. "I'm up for the pool idea," he said. "It can't be bad to get through a few locks now and then. Besides, it'll probably be a lot nicer with no one else around." Of course, that could also lead to compromising situations...

Chaosti nodded and said, "It is. When the kids with water powers come in and start messing around, it can get pretty raucous. Did you pack swim trunks by any chance? We could go up to the Water tower quickly - mine are up there in my room."

"Yeah, I think I brought them," Edward said. "Of course, my mom basically threw in my entire wardrobe when she found out I would be staying here. I was planning on just going shopping, but I don't really need to if I have all my clothes..." He trailed off when he realized he'd started rambling again.

Chaosti laughed and said, "Let's go get 'em then." He began walking up towards the castle, in the direction of the Water tower. "What room are you in? Do you have to share with a roommate?"

Edward followed Chaosti, still not completely sure where to go. "No, there's no one else in my room. There's another bed there, but no one's using it," he said. "I haven't really decided if that's a good thing or a bad thing yet. Oh, and I'm in room 5."

"Trust me, it's a good thing," Chaosti said. "Nobody to get on your case about sneaking out at night. Or sneaking in. I had a roommate last year - annoyed the hell out of me. I was lucky enough to land a single room this year. And hey, you're right down the hall from me. I'm room 8."

"Oh that's good," Edward said. "Let me guess, it had to have been either Elena or Autumn that had you leaving your room. I can imagine how someone nagging you about that could get annoying. It's good that you don't have that anymore."

Chaosti laughed and said, "Yeah, mostly them. Sometimes in the middle of the night, though, I get claustrophobic and need to stretch my wings. My old roommate was a stickler for the rules, and liked to give lectures whenever I went out after curfew for any reason. But you'll find not many people here - at least in our group - pay attention to the curfew."

Edward nodded. "It seems like a place where the rules don't matter that much," he said. "At least, with people running around with uncontrolled powers, there would be some rules. But your group seems pretty controlled. Especially Autumn... I don't think she touched solid ground once while I was there." He hoped complimenting the girlfriend would get him some points. It ws probably hopeless, but worth a try.

"We've all had lots of practice with our powers, and lots of practical experience. Now and then there will be a fight against evil or something that we need to pull out all our tricks for." He smiled to himself as they entered the Water common room [to save time], and headed for the stairs to the boys' dormitories. "Yeah, Autumn's pretty great. We've been together about one and a half years now." [That's my guesstimate at least.]

((Sounds about right...))
"Wow," Edward said, trying not to sound too sad. "You guys must be really happy together then. Most couples our age don't make it that long." He ran into his room really quickly when they reached it to get his swim trunks. "How does she deal with you being a shifter?"

Chaosti waited for Edward, then talked over his shoulder when he went into his room to drop his bag onto his bed and dig through his wardrobe for his swim trunks. His room was kept fairly neat, though art projects in various stages of completion were scattered on all available surfaces. "Well, when I'm in full dragon form, I can't exactly talk. But one of her powers is telepathy, so she can hear my thoughts. Hold on just a minute." He shut his door to change quickly, and emerged in a t-shirt and his swim trunks. He grabbed a couple of clean towels from the bathroom at the end of the hallway, and asked Edward, "Ready?"

Edward nodded, peeking into Chaosti's room. "Yeah, I'm ready," he said. "Well, that makes a lot of sense actually. It makes sense for you to be with someone who could be able to understand you at all times." He was taken aback by all the art projects all around the room. "Wow, those are really good. Why do you think you need to improve?" He looked at Chaosti in confusion.

Chaosti grinned and said, "Thanks." He shoved his hands into his pockets as he looked around at all of his art and said, "Well, I guess when it comes to my art I'm a perfectionist. I could probably tell you something I don't like about every single one of these. Autumn and Layali have been sitting for me for quite a while now, and before them I was occasionally able to strap Elena to a chair long enough to do a quick portrait. So I've had lots of practice with the female form. But whenever I try and draw or paint a male, it doesn't turn out right. It's always too stiff, too disproportionate, too lifeless, too something." He shrugged, unable to think of any other way to explain it. His male portraits always just felt like they were missing something, and he couldn't quite figure out what.

"Well, hopefully that's changing now," Edward said. "Maybe you just needed a new face." He smiled and put a hand on his shoulder. "Or it could just be that you need to relax more. Stop trying to make it perfect and just let it come. But you don't need to trust me.. I'm just the sitter, not the artist."

Chaosti thought about that and said, "No, that's good advice. Maybe I am focusing too much on my expectations of it, and how it should turn out, rather than just letting it become what it needs to." [Whee, foreshadowing!] He mulled this over a moment longer, then shook his head to clear it. With a smile, he punched Edward's shoulder lightly, the way guys do, and said, "C'mon - let's go break into the pool."

Edward smiled and chuckled quietly when Chaosti lightly punched his shoulder. "Wow, you're so excited to be breaking and entering," he said with a smirk to show that he was joking. "And I'm glad to be of service. I'm always open for giving advice, though my reputation with my therapists might label my advice as 'questionable.'"

Chaosti waved a hand dismissively as he walked in the direction of the pool. "Ah, therapists - what do they know? I've never put much stock in therapy. I think it's all stuff someone could figure out on their own, without spending any money. As for breaking and entering, once you've been around Elena long enough, that becomes the least of your moral worries."

"I'm pretty sure my parents could have paid for my entire college education, which I'm no longer going to get, with the money they used for my therapy," Edward said, shaking his head. "They wasted their money, convinced it would work, for years.... I'm still the same, though. And I'm nor really worried about moral issues. I've been dealing with other people's moral worries for years."
