"If you're sure that's what you want to do," Daemon murmured, watching her expression carefully.

"As long as I'm with you, I don't really care what I do right now," Autumn answered, giving up on hiding some of her feelings toward him. He had a right to know. At least, that's what she kept repeating to herself.

Daemon smiled, standing up and holding his hand out to Autumn to help her up. "Let's get you out of here, then."

Autumn smiled as well, taking his hand to stand up. She made no effort to let go, however. "Did I say thank you?" she asked. "For saving me."

"It was nothing," Daemon said, making no attempt to reclaim his hand.

Autumn hesitated before asking, "Did you tell anyone that you were leaving? Because I believe the agreement was three days. Not two."

"And have to argue with Logan for hours? Of course I didn't. I decided three days was too much of a liability. I intended to just drop in and check on you without letting you know I was here. If everything was fine, I would return to the school and await your return. If not.. It's a good thing I didn't wait that extra day."

"I would have been fine for another few days," Autumn said. "They checked on me after five days last time and I was fine. That was when they dragged me to the orphanage."

"Still," Daemon said gruffly. "I was worried."

Autumn smiled softly up at him. "Thank you," she said.

Daemon squeezed her hand briefly, then automatically shut and locked the morgue doors behind them. "Right. Now we head back, I suppose. Unless you need to do anything else while you're here."

Autumn shook her head. "Nothing else needs to be done. I'll be happy with knowing that they failed again." She took a deep breath. "But I think we should take it slow on the ride home. I may be alive, but I'm still a bit weak."

Daemon nodded and said, "We'll stop off for food and drink at the first place we come to."

Autumn nodded as well. "There's a McDonalds about five minutes away," she said. "It's not great, but it's food."

Daemon nodded and said, "We'll go there. Lead the way. You set the pace."

Autumn started walking in the direction she knew McDonalds was in. She kept his hand and pulled him along with her.

When they reached the McDonalds, Daemon scanned the menu as he took a wallet out from an inside pocket of his trench coat. He examined how much muggle money he had and asked, "Know what you want?"

"I'll just get a salad and a coke," Autumn said, looking everything over. "Anything else would probably make me throw up."

Daemon ordered a double cheeseburger and a black coffee with that, then paid for it all. When their order was ready, he took their tray and slid into a booth in a far corner.

Autumn hesitated before sliding into the bench that he sat on. She sat as close as she could without their skin touching. She muttered her thanks and pulled her food off the tray.
