Evolution vs. Creationism
Not too long ago I was sitting around watching TV [like a good little American teenager] and came across an interesting show.. It was one of the 30 Days episodes. This particular one featured an atheist living with a family of extreme Christians for 30 days. One of the issues that it raised was the theory of Creationism versus Evolution.
I understand that people have different views. And hey, whatever you want to believe, go ahead and believe it. But.. Hearing some of those comments made me feel like shooting myself in the foot. The super-Christian family took the atheist woman on a tour of this one museum. The tour group was called "Biblically Correct", and they told the people on the tour the apparent Biblical version of all the things in the museum.. Example: "Now science says that dinosaurs were extinct 63 million years before humans came into existence, but we know what?" The people chorus, actually chorus, "That God created them on the same day." I swear.. This made me want to shove an ice pick into my brains through my ear like that one dude I saw on Dr. Phil once.. I totally felt for the atheist, who was standing there like "Oh my Big Bang.. Have you.. never had a science class? Or picked up a book? Like, ever?" I turned off the TV at this point, too disgusted to endure much more of this torture.
My sister brings up some good points. She says that in her view [she's Christian and I'm Wiccan, by the way], she considers the Story of Creation to be thus: The "days" are really exaggerations of millions of years, since this time period would be like the blink of an eye for God/a higher being. Then she thinks that the simplest creatures were created, which over time evolved into more complex creatures. Dinosaurs didn't romp with humans. Thus she and I agree that much of what people dispute about so much in the Bible [such as the creation of the Earth in a handful of days] is symbolic.
Now you know my [and my sister's] opinion. I want to know your opinions. Where do you stand on this subject?
