"Considering I've never really heard it, no I don't," Autumn remarked, only a little bitterly. "I promised, remember? I've been keeping all three."

"And I do appreciate that," Daemon said quietly.

"I know," Autumn said, nodding. "I can sense that without reading your mind." She looked into his eyes, itching to push away the piece of hair that was hanging in the middle of his face. "I do wish you would let me see some of it though," she added.

Daemon appeared to be deep in thought for a moment before he said hesitantly, "Is there a way for you to only read surface thoughts, without seeing memories?"

Autumn nodded. "I can only see memories if you focus on them," she said. "Otherwise it's just regular, everyday thoughts." She was doing very well at concealing the excitement she felt at the prospect of being able to hear his thoughts, even only some of them. It meant he was starting to let her in, whether he knew it or not.

Daemon mulled this over, then said slowly, "I am in your debt for you saving my life. If it would make you happy.. then I grant you permission to view my surface thoughts." Which, at the moment, revolved around paranoia of opening up at all to anyone, automatic periodic gauging of the threat level of those around him, and occasional admiration of how good she looked in that dress, and how pissed off Lars would be if he knew about this.

Autumn smiled softly and let her guard drop enough so that she could hear his thoughts but a lot of the others' in the room were still blocked and she looked down, away from his face, to keep her control. She noted how different his mind was from everyone else's that she knew. She bit the inside of her lip to keep from asking who Lars was and she was flattered to hear that he liked the dress. It was one thing to hear him say it aloud, but it was a whole 'nother thing to hear it in his mind. After a few seconds, she looked back up at him and smiled. "Thank you," she said quietly.

Daemon smiled back a bit nervously and said simply, "You're welcome."

"And you don't have to worry," Autumn said. "About opening up, I mean. I'm not going to judge you, obviously. I've seen enough crazy shit in people's minds. Yours seems fairly normal." She smirked with the last sentence, letting him know that she didn't think it was boring in the least, just not out of the ordinary.

Daemon's lips twitched into a smile as he echoed, "Normal? I find that hard to believe."

Autumn shrugged. "Well, it's normal enough. Nothing overly bizarre, gross, repulsive, or self-deprecating. It could be a lot worse," she said. "I can tell you right now, without even looking, that there are five, possibly six, guys digging themselves a hole while talking to their girlfriends. And that would be because their brains are screwed up and their thoughts are hardly normal. Then there's the twenty or so guys whose minds are stuck on making a sexual connection to anything, the ten or so guys trying to decide how to tell their girlfriends they love them, the multitudes of other guys wanting to find a decent girlfriend... Anyway, I'm not exactly how well I proved my point, but your thoughts are on pretty normal." Then she laughed sheepishly. "And sorry for the rant."

Daemon chuckled and said, "It's fine. It's.. interesting."

"At least I'm iteresting then," Autumn said. "There is a reason for my existence then."

"I'm sure you've got a bigger purpose in life than just being interesting," Daemon replied.

"Really?" Autumn said. "And how do you figure that?"

"You just seem like someone who will do great things. Why be born with all those powers of yours if you're not meant to put them to some use?" He snorted then and said, "Of course, there's also the possibility that it has nothing to do with fate whatsoever and nothing will come of it. But you seem like the kind of person who likes to change things."

Autumn smiled. "I do like to change things," she said. "For the better, of course." She focused on the dance for a minute. Then she looked back up at Daemon. "So, going back to an earlier point, and we've already decided that there is no stability in my mind, what would happen if you were the on I pointed to?"

[Okay, I've been trying to think of a reason for Daemon to stop being all freaky-paranoid, a reason I'd believe. All I've been able to come up with is another rescue mission.. Autumn needs rescuing from something, he realizes how much it would hurt him to lose her, and voila. Only trouble is, how on earth could we get Autumn into a situation that she couldn't get out of herself?]
Daemon sighed and said, sounding exasperated, "Are you suicidal or something? Is that it? Because you're doing it wrong. That's not how it works. I only kill when there's something in it for me. Mostly. So first you'd have to find someone rich to piss off enough for them to contract an assassin."

((Hmmm.... Well, we could do something with her parents and give her an opportunity to "save" her brother from them. It could be an anonymous note or something. Then they could hire someone to put a spell on the room that she ends up in to keep her there, but can only be taken off from the outside. Maybe something like that? And her judgement is all clouded from trying to save her brother, who would be taken to a different country to insure that she doesn't actually get to him.))
"I'm not suicidal," Autumn said, sounding just as exasperated. "Just because you're a paid assassin, doesn't mean that there's no good in you. I can see it, you just refuse to. And I'm really beginning to like that guy that's hiding away in your subconscious."

[Ooo, that would work.. And she asks Daemon to come with her or he follows her?]
Daemon sighed and said, sounding amazed, "You really are crazy."
