Frost stood and turned to the other vampires in the room. He said to them in a bold, steady voice, "I have defeated Asher, Master Vampire of the City of Paris no more. I am your new master and everyone will immediately take blood oath to me if you wish to live for very long.
Sage lay motionless on the floor.

The other vampires quickly rushed forward and fell to their knees, offering fealty to Frost and leaving Janelle unguarded in her shackles. She was slowly regaining more strength, clawing through the cobwebs that clouded her mind. She was able to apply pressure to Sage's wound more firmly, but otherwise there was nothing she could do to help the girl. She wasn't even sure if she could speak yet.

Frost had a blood oath from all of Asher's former servants and or gaurds. Come to find out, most either hated him or just served him out of fear, and were more than happy to be serving someone else. Frost saw Sage laying on the floor, at the same time seeing Janelle. "Release her immediately. Someone go to the front office and retrieve Julianna." Frost kneeled down next to Sage. He felt for her pulse, but it was barely there. He knew what he would have to do... but he knew Sage would hate him after it. Although, he would rather see her alive than dead. He gave her the First Mark, making her his human servant, which in turn gave her his strength.
Sage's eyes fluttered open and the first thing she said was something Frost would have never expected. "Who are you?"
Frost stared blankly at her, not knowing what to say.

Julianna had regained consciousness, though not her strength, by the time the vampires arrived. She had simply lain there, unsure if it would be worth it to get up, to find out how the fight had gone. Would she simply walk into the room to find her life shattered? It was much better, she'd decided, to wait. If the only two people in the world she loved had been killed, that was something she could delay finding out about. A few more minutes in a world that didn't burn with agony.. Then the vampires arrived, announcing that the new Master of the City, Frost, had ordered them to retrieve her. She was so relieved to hear this that she allowed them to help her stand before snarling at them to back off, that she wasn't some damsel in distress.
Upon reaching the receiving room, she rushed to Janelle, who had been released from her chains and kneeled on the stone floor, still too dazed to stand by herself. Julianna pulled her into a tight hug, breathing her strength into the girl. She buried her face in Janelle's hair momentarily as she fought back the stupid tears of relief that she wouldn't allow anyone to see. Then she turned to Frost, and began to smile before she saw Sage lying in a pool of blood. She had never cared one way or another about Sage, but recognized that she was an important figure in Frost's life. And so she asked, "Is she okay?"

Frost just stared blankly at Sage. He didn't even notice that Julianna was in the room. "What did you say?"
Sage groaned and said, "Where am I? Who are you?" She tried to get up but stumbled and fell back down.
Frost screamed an angry, rage-filled howl. Damn Asher, he erased her memory before he killed him. One stray tear fell from his eye and he mumbled enough for the closest vampire to hear, "Get her medical assistance. Get her out of my sight." Frost walked away from everyone to the bedroom he knew was there. He slammed the door behind him and beat himself up, as well as everything in the room. Everything was destroyed.

Julianna didn't want to leave Janelle alone, but she knew Frost would need her. She siphoned more of her strength into her daughter, then asked in a murmur, "Are you okay?" Janelle gave her a half smile and said, "Sure. I'm fantastic. It's been one big party." Julianna gave a short laugh, and checked Janelle's hands. The finger that had been chopped off had grown back, and looked almost as though it had never been touched, except it had the pink tint of new skin that the rest of her hand didn't. Julianna let Frost rage for a bit - he needed it - while she stuck next to Janelle, glaring violently at anyone who got too close. Finally, she asked, "Will you be okay by yourself for a few moments? I've summoned the Paris faction of the pride, the ones I left stationed here. They should be here any second now." "I'll be fine," Janelle assured her. Sure enough, a group of five werelions soon entered the room, clustering around the two. Julianna brushed a hand against each of them as she extricated herself from the crowd, then gave them orders to guard Janelle. They obeyed without question. Hard times had bound their loyalties close to Julianna.
She entered the room Frost was in silently, closing the door behind her and leaning against it as she simply watched him, waiting, not pushing him.

Frost looked at Julianna with so much raw pain in his eyes, quickly it vanished, leaving behind emotionless eyes. He walked toward her and gave her a quick hug, not very meaningful but still a hug at the very least. He walked away from her muttering to himself.

Julianna simply continued to watch him, her ice blue gaze as eerily unblinking as any cat's. Finally she sat down on the shredded mattress, brushing some foam out of the way casually, as though it were just lint on a sheet, then said, "Whenever you're ready to tell me about it." She then stretched out on her stomach, avoiding the revealed springs in the mattress, and rested her chin on her folded arms, resuming her watch.

Frost slammed his fist against the stone wall, making an indent and some peices fall to the ground. "I had him!" Frost snarled. "But I wasn't quick enough! I had him! It should have been perfect! It should've been right!!!!!" With those last words he lashed out at the room, making all the furniture within three feet of him shatter. He sat down in the corner and cried for his lost love. Everything he had went through with Sage was now lost. Now no one understood him. He had no one....
[Julianna wasn't affected by the shattering of the furniture]

Julianna stood in a single sinuous movement and went to crouch next to Frost in the corner. She was terrible at the whole comforting thing, as it involved mincing around emotions and being tactful. Still, she would try. She sat with the warm line of her body next to his, offering silent fellowship. Having spent so long among the pride, she had unconsciously adopted some of their ways and affectations as her own - in this case, the comfort of simple touch. "Not all is lost," she said. "So much more could have gone wrong. There could have been far more casualties. She could possibly still regain her memory. ADSGMP has some of the best healers in the world. They may be able to help her."

He had stopped sobbing at this point and all that was left out of him were silent tears streaming ever so steadily down his face. "No....." he whispered, "You don't understand. He broke her mind. Wiped it clean. I doubt there is any hope left." He was silent for a moment and said, "You may not like this... but she was my lover once.... before I betrayed her. There was so much that had happened between us, so much that we had been through together." He thought about Julianna and how this could happen to them. He didn't want to get her caught into anything harmful.... He moved away from her, turning his head from her sight.

Julianna kept her skin in contact with his, but let him turn his head away. She was silent for a long moment, then finally she said, "I'm.. sorry. For your loss. I'm not sorry that it saved Janelle. But I'm sorry that you had to loose her memories of you in exchange. At least you remember, and she still lives. You can begin anew."

He shook his head and said, "It will never be the same."

Julianna shrugged and said, "Well, maybe it will be better than before. You can start over, without any baggage between you." She was running out of comforting things to say, quite clearly feeling rather awkward in any situation of the sort where inspirational or hopeful comments are usually offered.

He looked at her and tried for a smile but only came up with a sympathetic look to give her. "It's okay, you don't have to try and comfort me. It's not something that you'll ever understand. You've never had to live with memories that only you remember... I'm a vampire, it's my life." He seemed a little better now and said, "So, did you hear that I'm the master of the city?"

Julianna nodded slowly and then asked, "What does that mean for you?" 'What does that mean for us?' she silently added to herself. She wouldn't say it, though - that would be assuming things too quickly after they had just reconciled.

He laughed nervously and said, "A lot of things will change... I may not be able to go back to school, Julianna. I may not be able to go back with you. I have duties here that I must attend to. If I am seen as weak, or if I leave, I could be challeged and killed. I must blood-oath every vampire in the city. There is a lot that I must do, and it will take some time to have it all done. I will check and see if I may return to you afterwards. I may just have you return to school and visit me occasionally, or whenever you want..." He looked at her with a saddened expression and kissed her gently on her forehead.

Julianna sighed and said, "Do what you need to do. I have some sorting out to do with the pride myself. Now that they're all back together, well.." She curled her lip and said miserably, "I'm sure several of them are going to want to talk about their feelings. I'm thinking of just investing in an on-call therapist for them. At least until they pull their shit together after this whole thing."

He finally gave in on his needs and hugged her tight to his body. He pulled back enough to say, "I'm sorry, i've been selfish." He kissed her lightly and asked, "Are you alright?"

Julianna sighed in contentment, molding her body to Frost's and burying her face in the crook of his neck. She breathed in his scent deeply, then said, "I'm fine. Better than I've been in a long time."
